Movie Cover for Disney's Peter Pan

The first memory I have of seeing a movie in the theatre was Disney’s, Peter Pan. It made quite an impression on me. A young boy, Peter Pan, lives in a fantasy world called Neverland. In this makebelieve land, no boy grows old. They can stay children, never growing up – living without responsibility or cares in the world. There is a threat from the adults, particularly Captain Hook. However, the “risk” is relatively minimal as the boys can taunt and win against the bumbling adults. It’s a fantasy land, right!?

You are wondering where this blog post is heading?

The thought that goes through my mind regularly is how many of us choose not to grow up. To keep the status quo and believe that what our lives will always be as they are. We may fear the responsibility of the world around us, whether that be staff at work, sales deadlines or family responsibilities at home. Many people choose to stay as they are versus step out and grow. To challenge themselves and explore the friction points in career and life.

By putting our heads in the sand, in other words, ignoring the issue, we have chosen complacency. This choice will not solve a thing. You can expect the same results moving forward. Forever. Unless you decide to grow.

By exploring friction points, for example, continued frustration with a work colleague. Digging into what is happening and how you play a part in that perpetuation can unpack some great information that can assist you in resolving the work issue. The fantastic benefit of this is that the new tool that you have discovered in yourself can also be used in other work situations and your personal life. It’s not in you to call on when needed.

You have the power to change what causes friction in your life. It takes integrity to act on this. Taking action and making changes will not impact your life for the better it will also profoundly up-level those in your life.

We don’t live in Neverland.

Nor Neverland is it real.

It’s an amazing children’s story.

Live life now, make the changes you need to make in order to go where you dream of being. In order to head in the direction that you want to go in. Facing reality is essential, noting where you are today. Once you are clear on where you are at this very moment then, you can plot a course to where you want to go!
